Guest Curator, Baxter St. at CCNY

Updated: Aug 25, 2023

So very honored and excited to have been selected to curate Material Evidence at Baxter St. at CCNY this fall! The opening reception will be held on October 26, and the two public programs will be announced soon. Especially excited for the publication that will be produced alongside the exhibition. More details on that soon.

'Material Evidence' proposes the extension of an image’s lifespan beyond the archive by introducing a conversation between two multi-disciplinary lens based artists. With the works of Nazanin Noroozi and Esperanza Mayobre, 'Material Evidence' assembles an array of works on canvas and paper alongside photographs and Super 8mm film footage that the artists use to vanish the photographer’s presence, asserting their hand-applied revitalization of a historicized record. Both artists use photographs as the impetus into process-oriented interventions, transforming the image and transcending its concept. Citing Barthes’ theory of the death of the author as the birth of the reader, this exhibition follows the process of the artist “making” an image after the photographer’s capture.
